Lee Dong Wook & Yoo In Na Could Really "Touch Your Heart" With Their New Show

TVN's Touch Your Heart gave justice to the reunion of the PITCHI on screen couple, Lee Dong Wook and Yoo In Na – the romantic comedy series recently released the finale and fans are still craving for more! In this series, Yoo In Na is Oh Yoon Seo, an actress who’s under the radar due to being involved in a scandal whilst Lee Dong Wook is Jung Rok, a firm and serious lawyer of ALWAYS firm – as a secret, Oh Yoon Seo has to work as Jung Rok’s secretary to learn more about the world of justice due to a promise that she will be given a role in a show she wants to star in if she studies and see how lawyers really work. 2016’s hit drama, Goblin, gave way to show how good the chemistry is between Lee Dong Wook and Yoo In Na as Grim Reaper and Sunny – which many felt that their love story was not given any justice as much as Gong Yoo and Kim Go Eun’s Goblin and Eun Tak; Touch Your Heart became the most awaited show for 2019 and they didn’t disappoint despite some criticisms from audience and critics alike. Here, it was proved how utterly convincing Lee Dong Wook and Yoo In Na is as a couple on-screen and even proving it in the behind the scenes footage of Touch Your Heart.

Goblin left the PITCHI couple off at the finale – Grim Reaper and Sunny are reincarnated, where Sunny works as a demanding actress and Reaper was working as a counsel for the show. This is where Touch Your Heart maximised the plot and enabled it to a romantic comedy about a stiff but smart lawyer and an actress in a crisis to work. As soon as you start watching it, you would notice at first is the fantastic wardrobe of all the characters, main or supporting, and the bubbly interior design of Oh Yoon Seo’s apartment. Here comes Yeon Joon-Kyu, played brilliantly by Oh Jung-Se, the CEO of ALWAYS firm but eager for attention and dedicated fan of Yoon Seo, introduces the set of characters through a funny sequence of where to put Yoon Seo as the secretary; Park Kyung-Hye’s Dan Moon-Hee, who struggles to not fall in love with any men she sets her eyes on and Shim Hyung-Tal’s Choi Yoon-Hyuk, a mama’s boy and narcissistic lawyer won’t work. Oh Jung-Se decides on Jung Rok, feisty but the star lawyer of the firm to place Yoon Seo under. With Jang So-Yeon’s independent mother Yang Eun-Ji and Kim Hee-Jung’s modern receptionist Kim Hae-Young also gave such presence that you don’t even think of them as only supporting characters. Oh Eui-Sik played convincingly as Yoon Seo’s manager, Kong Hyuk-Joon and Lee Joon-Hyuk’s Yeon Joon Seok, the CEO of YEON who always has her back despite some hardships of being in the entertainment industry. But don’t forget Lee Sanng Woo’s Kim Se-Won, charming and a long time friend of Jung Rok and Son Sung-Yoon’s competitive Yoo Yeo-Reum.

Some audiences were not keen in the idea of a predictable cliché romantic comedy which might have been the result of an average rating of viewers. But don’t let these comments get you – the series gives so much funny antics that you’ll find every character lovable. The performance of every actor in this series is convincing and entirely brilliant is one of the main reasons as to why you’ll keep watching it until the end. Especially the versatile acting of Lee Dong Wook and Yoo In Na brought a lot to the table of the series – you’ll witness the warmth Yoo In Na gives Lee Dong Wook that every single time he smiles at a scene, almost as if the emotions are genuine at the moment. Some might find it shallow and unentertaining but as soon as you watch the episodes later on, you’ll grow to its fluffy and delightful atmosphere. One of my favourite parts of the series is from the first episode where Yoon Seo is watching a scene from one of her projects and you cannot help but laugh at how good Yoo In Na acts as an actress who’s bad at acting. From my point of view, the reason as to why the ratings did not reach its goal of viewers – is the constant comparing of Touch Your Heart to Goblin; many seem to anticipate this light hearted romantic comedy would be aspiring to the level of drama and storyline as Goblin. I couldn’t blame them either for Goblin gathered many awards for its plot and acting – Touch Your Heart is entirely different from the setting to its storyline; as light as a feather that aims to bring a smile to your face is what this show is. The constant comparison started because of many saying the show is a parody of the ending of Goblin but the writers of TYH made it their own as it progresses.
The soundtrack also played a part in giving this show its spotlight – its upbeat songs such as Chen of EXO’s Make It Count and Seoryoung & Lena’s Be Your Star is one of the memorable ones that would make you play it on repeat. The show is a slow burn romance but it clearly lived up to its aspects as a romantic comedy series; one of the things I wish they gave a little bit of background is to what made Yoo In Na’s character dropped out of law school to be an actress, why did Park Ji-Hwan’s romantic and poetic Lee Doo-Seob was not given justice and why did the show has only sixteen episodes?! Really? WHY? I can’t forget the scene where Lee Dong Wook’s character was so heartbroken by the break up and all along I was asking as why he’s just poker face – but soon enough, I witness the scene where the close-up of him crying made me cry as well and feel the entirety of his character’s emotions. Yoo In Na’s delivered such performance of where she got mad over not having the chance of eating pasta with Jung Rok – the scene was so relatable I had to pause because I was laughing so hard. And oh, the part where Jung Rok accidentally attended a blind date meeting and Yoo In Na uttered the lines where every LDW fans could relate too; that was so good.

The finale gave so much heart-warming scenes that the one hour run of it wasn’t even entirely enough. I don’t want to forget to mention the production’s exemplary work throughout the series – you could see how every turn of the location and lightning gives so much meaning to the visuals of Touch Your Heart. See it for yourself and don’t let the negative comments get you. TVN’s Touch Your Heart is nothing but a delightful romantic comedy set to make you hearts flutter with Lee Dong Wook and Yoo In Na’s undeniable chemistry and captivating performances. Cheers to the TYD’s entire cast and crew – you did a spectacular show.
